This is a cross-post of a LinkedIn update, which I wanted to give a permanent home on my blog.
The world of AI has changed quite a bit since I started running the AI Safety Fundamentals course in 2021. Since we founded BlueDot Impact in August 2022, 1000s of people from a range of backgrounds and career stages have taken our courses on AI Safety and Biosecurity.
I’m so grateful to the team I was part of for building these world-class courses and curricula. I’m proud we were able to serve the influx of people who’ve taken an interest in AI safety over the last couple of years. I’m even prouder of all the people who have taken our courses and gone on to do important work on related problems.
Earlier this year, I took a temporary break to explore new challenges through the GovAI Winter Fellowship. I’ve now decided to permanently move towards AI policy-oriented work. I’m feeling refreshed by the new challenges ahead of me, and I’m looking forward to taking my career further in that direction.
The BlueDot Impact team and courses have continued to grow in my absence. In 2024, more courses will run than ever before, as they scale to meet the still-growing demand to learn about these important problems.
Looking back, it’s been a great experience to learn what’s involved with starting an org alongside my co-founders, about how to convene and empower people with a shared mission, and about the value of execution and grit. I’m excited to take these skills into whatever’s next for me.
Once again, I’m really excited about the team we’ve built and the focus it has on delivering courses. If you’re considering joining the team now or in the future, I can thoroughly recommend it as a place where you can make a real difference with your work, and get a lot done. I’ll be staying in close contact with the team and I’m looking forward to seeing what’s ahead for BlueDot Impact!
➡️ What’s next for me?
I’m currently working under Markus Anderljung at the Centre for the Governance of AI for the duration of GovAI’s Winter Fellowship, and will be exploring new opportunities from April 2024. Do reach out if you’re interested in collaborating in the future!
I’m excited to continue with a combination of making direct contributions to AI policy, and doing relevant engagement work with governments and civil society to drive forward the field of AI governance.
Projects I’m working on:
- Completing the GovAI Winter Fellowship.
- Organising the next AI Governance Talks events.
- [Coming soon] launching a part-time education consulting service to help others with course design.
